Since the inception of their Holiday Camps (2022) they have reserved approximately 10% of the places for children who receive FSM, completely free. They have done so because they believe every child deserves access to educational + recreational activities, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. The remaining spaces, available to the public will, more often than not, sell out.
The holiday camps are a mix of sports, games, crafts and adventure activities and are delivered by a small team of experienced "Playground Instructors" who are all enhanced DBS checked and Sports Coach UK accredited in Safeguarding and Protecting Children as a minimum. Due to the smaller number of the groups (max 40) each child receives a level of attention and support that ensures they feel comfortable, safe and can ultimately enjoy themselves.
Not only will the child enjoy themself, they will benefit from the developmental activities and skill building games. The social aspect of playing games and spending time with children from across the Island, outside of their normal social circles. Furthermore, the ‘FSM’ places, although limited, supports parents with their children during the holidays, making sure they are looked after, and any potential cost implications/limitations are eliminated.
In some extreme cases, a free school meal can be the only full meal a child receives in a day and the impasse during school holidays can present a real challenge to families.
